Who made men and women - and in what form?

That the first man was made in the exact image of God and was a three part unity.

(spirit, soul and body)

This is about human beings having three parts to their beings. This is an important factor that needs to be understood, because you need to know what God does at the time of death. Remember that God is a trinity, having three aspects. You should now know that God made man in His own image. This is what God said and did.

Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;.".

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them".

Genesis 5:1 "This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God".

This is how God made man

Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being".

What is man?

So, men and women are spirit beings, who have a soul and live in a body.

St. Paul explains the three aspects of human beings

1 Thessalonians 5:23 "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ".

These next two scriptures mention just two aspects - the human spirit and body (flesh)

James 2:26 "For as the body without the spirit is dead,.." (body and spirit)

2 Corinthians 7:1 "Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God". (spirit and flesh - body)

These are all important matters when we start to get to know God and how He is going to treat us at our death. There is more to it than this, but it is based on this understanding of human beings having three aspects. You would have observed that the world, in its medical and psychological professions only treat the body and soul, because they are generally unaware of the godly aspect of the spirit and they cannot treat it anyway. That is the domain of God alone, which is why we need to know Him.

The first woman was made by God from the body of the first man

This is about how the first woman was taken out of the body of the man and formed by God.

This is how God made woman

Genesis 2:21-25 "And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed".

This is what the Bible says about the relationship of men and women

1 Corinthian 7:2-3 "...let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband".....Let the husband render to his wife the affection due to her, and likewise also the wife to her husband".

1 Cor 11:12 "For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God"

The first man and woman were perfect in spirit, soul and body and were able to commune directly with the Spirit of God; spirit to Spirit

This is to explain that the first man and woman (created in the image of God) were perfect in every detail and lived in a perfect world controlled by God. They knew no evil at all, only good. When God finished His work of creation He said this.

Genesis 1:25. "And God saw that it was good".

Then God provided for the every need of man and woman. It was their task to look after all they had been given

Genesis 1:28 "Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth".

Genesis 1:29-30 "And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so".

Genesis 2:8-9 "The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil".

There was only one instruction. This was that the fruit from one tree should not be eaten.

Genesis 2:15-17 "Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die".

What was it like to live at that time?

Can you imagine what it must have been like to live at that time? They were perfect in body, they thought alike as God thought, their spirit was in perfect communion with God Himself, who used to talk with them all the time and they were provided with all the food they needed to live. Most importantly, they were told to be fruitful and multiply. But we are then told that what happened next, brought evil into the world. When this first couple were disobedient to God, they lost their ability to commune directly with Him. This is what is known as the Fall of man, where the first man and woman sinned against God by disobeying His command not to eat from the tree of good and evil.

Had they not sinned in this way they would have lived forever. However, God knew what would happen. In essence what happened was that Adam's wife Eve was deceived by Satan and then Adam sinned against God. Then God, because of the disobedience, put a curse on all mankind. There were some different aspects for men and women. From that time, man lost his immediate and open contact with God. However, Jesus Christ came to earth to pay the debt for all human beings who have suffered this curse and if He is accepted as Lord and Saviour by each person then, the curse is removed and they again have open access to God, as did Adam and Eve in their time.

This is what happened

Genesis 3:6-13 "...when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate

. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?" Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." And the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate".

This is how God decided to punish both the woman and the man

To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you." Then to Adam He said, ...Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."

After the punishment came God's love. Genesis 3:21 "Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them." In other words God forgave them. The clothing is indicating the covering of their sin and showing God's forgiveness. But there were boundaries over which they could not cross Genesis 3:22-24 "Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to

know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"..‚ÄĚtherefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life"..

God made sure that they could not access the tree of life and eat from it and live forever, so He removed them from the garden and guarded it. To gain eternal life their sin had to be covered (which it was) or in our time, we have to rely on the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ on the cross in order to have eternal life.

Note - Yes, Adam and Eve will be in heaven with others who gain access by knowing God. Every person born since Adam has been born with the sin nature (except Jesus Christ). To go to heaven this nature needs to be changed by a spiritual act performed by God when we confess our sin and make Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

Every man and woman born since the first man Adam

(except Jesus Christ because of His virgin birth) has been born without the normal ability to commune with God. Consequently they have had to live out of their own soul and body, without the ability to receive guidance from God through the Holy Spirit.

This is about how the fall of man has devastated the life of mankind in all periods of history. Mankind lost the ability to commune with God. Mankind's inhumanity to man began at the time of Adam and has continued ever since. Mankind has lived in poverty of human spirit, which has caused every other trouble known to man, including wars, disease, relationship breakdown, shortage of food and water and a multitude of lack of other necessities.

This situation has been brought about because, without God's guidance, man has had to live out of his own knowledge and wisdom alone. Without God's wisdom, man has messed up badly -and what is more, can never fix it himself. He needs God. However, the good news is that God has provided the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to pay for the sins of all people who confess their sins and take Christ to be their Lord and Saviour. More about that in other places.

Except for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, mankind has lived in darkness since that time.

The effect of darkness explained

Psalm 4:19 "The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble".

So darkness, which is lack of communication with God, causes people to stumble

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 "But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them".

Darkness is continued in those who have their eyes blinded to the truth by Satan, here called the god of this world, because of his conditional control over the world allowed by God. So if they are spiritually blind they cannot see the light of God. There is the encouragement to awake to the light of God Firstly in the anticipation of Christ to provide the light of God Psalm 112:4 "Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous".

Matthew 4:16 "The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned".

Luke 1:79 "To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace"."

Secondly, since Jesus has come to earth, has died for our sins and risen again.

Ephesians 5:13-14 :But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light".

2 Corinthians 4:6 "For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ".

Colossians 1:13 " He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,..."

So, God has done all He has needed to do to provide for man to again have access to God. This happened through the coming of Jesus and what He did whilst He was on earth. So mankind in this time has no excuse not to know God. God is seeking all men who do not know Him and all anyone has to do is to ask.
